Penicuik Street Fair: 23rd August 2014

It was mixed weather but it stayed mostly dry and we managed to make a reasonable amount to make it all worthwhile.  fantastic contributions, as usual, from Margaret and Gillian...home baking and a children's lucky dip proving particularly popular.  The raffle was also popular, with many quality prizes, including hampers, fancy cushions, toiletries, CDs of African music, and..a star prize, a copy of our very own Patron (Julie Davidson)'s book, "Looking for Mrs. Livingstone": http://www.amazon.co.uk/Looking-Mrs-Livingstone-Julie-Davidson/dp/0715209647

However, it was our Trustee, Ba Agnes Ngulube Holmes, who really stole the show with her glorious Zambian crafts and materials.  These drew people like bees to the honey pot and it's amazing how many Penicuik people with Zambian connections we discovered.  Agnes was interviewed for the Midlothian Advertiser, including being photographed alongside our Friends of Chitambo banner (pictured).

Jo Vallis was also interviewed for our local Radio Crystal radio station and told about the historical connections between Scotland and Chitambo, where David Livingstone died.

She also managed to make a plug for our first AGM on  Sunday 7th September, 2 pm (UK time), Community Room, Penicuik, Library: http://www.midlothian.gov.uk/info/200156/penicuik_library/1252/find_us
Options also to join us by Skype.  Please contact Jo for further information.
